Project Description
Since the mid 1960’s, the Hunt Refinery has been protected from flooding by a levee on the Black Warrior River. The levee serves a dual purpose by keeping flood waters out and containment in case of a spill. In 2009, Schoel Engineering began providing consulting services to gain FEMA recognition of the levee. The work included revising and extending the effective hydraulic model of the Black Warrior River, analyzing the internal drainage of the levee system, and submitting a FEMA Letter of Map Revision to revise the Flood Insurance Rate Maps. Project services provided by Schoel included levee design and certification, unsteady flow modeling of the Black Warrior River, and site drainage analysis (Internal Drainage of the Levee System).
