Project Description

Community Foundation Park anchors the intersection of Dr. Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard and Pelham Avenue and is a key gateway into downtown Huntsville. The park was a collaboration between the City of Huntsville, Arts Huntsville, and the Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville. The centerpiece of the urban plaza is a public art installation designed by David Dahlquist and Matt Niebuhr of RDG Dahlquist Art Studio. This work of art is the first of three pieces in the
“Traveler” series being installed in the heart of downtown Huntsville.

The design pays homage to the Traveler series by incorporating some of the same geometric shapes into the plan while providing a variety of seating options and varying viewing angles to interact with the public art. The design also provides the opportunity for buskers to share their talents, and USB charging stations have been incorporated into the ipe topped seat walls. Accent lighting incorporated into the seat walls, benches, and other elements in the park provides a different experience after sundown.
