Schoel prepared the formal bid documents for a new UAB Women & Infants hospital facility located on the UAB campus in Birmingham. The project is a design-build project with Schoel Engineering working for the owner in preparation of the design development documents and the design build team in preparing final documents and construction. The proposed WIF facility is to be located adjacent to the UAB North Pavilion Hospital. The development represents the redevelopment of a city block including the vacation of roadways and the relocation of utilities, as required. Prior to new construction beginning, the scope included demolishing the existing site improvements, rerouting the major utilities within the mid-block alleys to locations with the public roadways surrounding the site, and vacating these alleys. These relocated utilities were coordinated to find appropriate routing around existing utilities, and maintain service as necessary while the work was being completed. Design of a utility conflict box to route multiple utilities in a congested areas was also provided.
