Project Description
This project was a redevelopment of an existing low income housing development spread across 9 city blocks in downtown Birmingham. The general scope included the demolition of the existing improvements on these blocks and the design of new improvements within these blocks. In addition, the scope included significant utility relocations and new infrastructure within the public rights-of-way to connect to the new in-block infrastructure. These improvements included relocation of major overhead power distribution to underground locations while maintaining the live distribution of the power lines, redesign and routing of sanitary sewers, design and relocation of storm sewers, telecommunication, CATV, and gas services. In congested areas utility conflict boxes were designed and implemented to successfully route the utilities.
